How we grow

Chemical-free isn't a label we bought. It's how we've grown from day one.

Started from seed

The majority of our plants are started from seed right here in East Bethel — which means fewer hitchhiking pests and diseases, and stronger plants from the roots up.

No added chemicals

Since 1991 we've raised our plants without pesticides or added chemicals. What goes home with you is safe around kids, pets, pollinators, and vegetable gardens.

Grown under our roofs

Seven greenhouses — five 30×96s and two 15×96s — holding over 17,000 square feet of plant material, tended daily by the family. If it's on our benches, we grew it and we can tell you exactly how.

Our story

One small greenhouse and the gumption to grow differently.

In 1991, Alan and Kris Goldeman started with a single greenhouse, a strong work ethic, and a conviction that plants could be raised without chemicals. That idea became our niche — and our name.

Three decades later, Goldeman's is a true family affair. Jared Goldeman, Jessica (Goldeman) Molin, and Evan Molin have joined the operation, and the same hands that seed the trays in February are the ones helping you load your car in May.

Good to know

Questions we hear a lot

When is it safe to plant annuals in Minnesota?
The average last frost in the north metro lands around mid-May, and the old Mother's Day rule of thumb is a decent starting point — but watch the 10-day forecast, because May likes to surprise us. Cold-tolerant plants like pansies can go out weeks earlier; hold warm-season vegetables like tomatoes and peppers until nights stay reliably above 50°F, usually late May. When in doubt, ask us — we watch the forecast for a living.
Do you actually grow your plants yourselves?
Yes — that's the whole point of us. Everything on our benches comes out of our own seven greenhouses in East Bethel, most of it started from seed right here. If it's on the bench, we grew it and can tell you exactly how.
What does "chemical-free" actually mean?
Since 1991 we've grown without pesticides or added chemicals — it's been our niche from the very first crop. That means what you take home is safe around kids, pets, and pollinators, and your herb and vegetable starts haven't been treated with anything you wouldn't want in a kitchen garden.
When do your fall mums arrive?
Our homegrown mums hit the benches in late summer and carry through fall. Exact timing shifts a bit with the growing year, so follow us on Facebook — we announce it the week they're ready, and the best selection goes early.
Can you help me figure out what's wrong with my plant?
Bring it in! A leaf in a zip-top bag or a few clear photos is usually enough for us to diagnose the problem and send you home with a plan. Our growing guides cover the most common issues — yellowing leaves, soil pH, hydrangeas that won't bloom — if you'd rather start there.
Do you sell wholesale?
We do — garden centers, landscapers, farm stands, and community projects across the north metro. Everything is grown chemical-free in our own greenhouses. Head to our wholesale page to see what we offer and request a quote.
Do you have gift cards?
We do — eGift cards delivered by email in minutes, or a physical card we load here and mail to any address. Both spend like cash at the greenhouse on plants, workshops, and everything in the store, and neither ever expires.
What else is at the greenhouse besides plants?
Our retail store carries gardening tools and supplies, containers, clothing, and home décor. There's a potting station you're welcome to use, and we run hands-on workshops through the season — check the events page for what's coming up.
